The application for removal of colorings and stains on living or non-living teeth is known as tooth whitening (bleaching). Teeth may have dark colors especially due to cigarettes, over-consumed coffee and tea, acidic beverages and some drugs. Different methods such as bleaching toothpastes and laser technology are evaluated. The bleaching process performed by dentists in a sterile clinical setting is conducted through usage of peroxide substances.
These substances, which contain ingredients for human health protection, cause the teeth to become white. The color of the natural teeth is determined firstly with the approval of the patient. This ensures to be able to make comparison after the process is finished. Subsequently, a special device is applied to the teeth by the dentist and the whitening (bleaching) agent is applied in a controlled way by means of the irradiation technique. Patient satisfaction is quite high after a bleaching procedure conducted through an experienced practitioner.
