Periodontology is the name given to the branch of dentistry, which aims to diagnose diseases of teeth and the supporting tissues around the teeth, their treatment and maintenance of the health gained after the treatment. The main objective of periodontal treatment is to keep even the most desperately unhealthy teeth in the mouth. The treatment methods applied vary according to teeth and the type and severity of the disease of the tissues surrounding the teeth.

These can be summarized primarily as oral hygiene education, calculus cleaning, root surface smoothing, regenerative - reconstructive and mucogingival procedures. The first step of the periodontal treatment is cleaning of the dental plaque by the patient, which is the main factor of the health problem, by using the toothbrush, dental floss and interface brush, and to remove the debris on the tooth through usage of special devices by the dentist.
